Yehya Skaff

Yehya Sekaf (Arabic: يحيى ‎ سكاف is a male Lebanese militant who participated in a Kamal Edwan Military operation.

On the morning of March 11, 1978, Yehya Sekaf and another Fedayeen unit of 13 members including Dalal Mughrabi , landed on an Israeli beach, hijacked a bus and later a second bus, from which the passengers were transferred to the first one. The bus was finally stopped at a police roadblock. A shooting battle ensued. Eventually, the Israeli government took a decision to blow up the bus which became a large deathtrap of fire. Many of the passengers were killed. Sekaf and 2 militants were detained.

The 2 militant were released during a prisoners exchange in 1985 but Sekaf is still missing. The Israeli government didn’t give any proof about his death like it did with Dalal Mughrabi (Picture of Ehoda Barak near her dead body . The 2 militants are not sure about his fate but the never saw him inside Israeli prisons. The International Red Cross didn’t receive any information about his current place of detention.

Sekaf’s fate was supposed to be announced as part of the 2008 Israel-Hezbollah prisoner swap. But the DNA tests of the 200 remains didn’t match with the DNA of his family; his family is still considering him alive and asks for announcing his fate by the Israeli officials.

It’s not clear if the Israel Prison Service (IPS) is keeping him in one of the Israeli prisons or if the Israeli Defense forces (IDF) is keeping his remains in the Israeli military cemeteries usually called “Cemetery Numbers”, or in another secret place.

Since his martyrdom remains a hypothesis, the probabilities regarding his fate remain open. Is he alive in Israeli custody? Is Israel denying his existence? Is he missing, hence, is his fate unknown? Is he alive? Is he a martyr? Or is he a martyr whose body is missing or whose body Israel retains? These are all possible probabilities.
